The Short Answer
For most sedans, SUVs and trucks, tinting all side windows and the Rear Window with genuine XPEL film costs $250 to $450 at Autograff, depending on the film. The windshield adds $180 or $250. Every shade is the same price, and every film carries a lifetime warranty. Teslas have their own price list, covered below.
Prices by Film and Window
| Coverage | Prime CS | XR Black | XR Plus |
|---|---|---|---|
| All side windows + Rear Window | $250 | $350 | $450 |
| Front side windows only | $100 | $140 | $200 |
| Rear side windows + Rear Window | $200 | $250 | $350 |
| Rear Window only | $150 | $180 | $250 |
| Windshield | In XR Black, $180 | $180 | $250 |
| Moonroof | $50 | $90 | $150 |
| Panoramic sunroof | $100 | $180 | $250 |
Prices are before sales tax. Small quarter windows are included with the door next to them at no extra charge. We do not put Prime CS on a windshield; customers who choose Prime CS get the windshield in XR Black.
What Each Film Gets You
- Prime CS is XPEL carbon film with a deep black look. It rejects up to 35% of infrared heat and is the entry point into XPEL tint.
- XR Black is nano-ceramic and rejects up to 85% of infrared heat.
- XR Plus is nano-ceramic and rejects up to 96% of infrared heat. It is recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation.
All three block 99% of UV, cut glare and have no metal, so phone, GPS and key fob signals work normally. Infrared is the part of sunlight you feel as heat, which is why the gap between carbon and nano-ceramic is easy to notice on a July afternoon in the Valley. Our ceramic vs carbon guide goes deeper.
Is Nano-Ceramic Worth the Extra Cost?
On a typical car, moving from Prime CS to XR Black adds $100, and XR Plus adds another $100. In XPEL's own test of two identical Mazda MX-5s in the Texas sun, the car with XR Plus ran up to 15°F cooler. If your car is parked outside at work or you drive across the Valley in the afternoon, that difference is easy to feel. If the car lives in a garage and you mostly want the look, Prime CS does the job.
Why Quotes in Los Angeles Range So Widely
Call five shops and you may hear prices from under $150 to well over $600 for the same car. The difference usually comes from:
- The film brand and line. Dyed film is the cheapest and fades over time. Carbon and nano-ceramic cost more and last.
- What the quote covers. Some prices are for the side windows only. Ask whether the Rear Window is included.
- The warranty. XPEL film is warrantied against bubbling, peeling, cracking, fading and discoloring for life, and the warranty transfers with the car.
- Where the work is done. Mobile installs in a driveway let dust under the film. We install only inside our closed studio.
Tesla Prices Are Different
Tesla glass is larger and shaped differently, so Teslas have their own price list. A Model Y is $560 in XR Black or $700 in XR Plus for side windows and the Rear Window; a Model 3 is $680 or $850. See every model on our Tesla window tint page or read the full Model Y cost breakdown.
Things That Can Change Your Total
- Old tint. If the car already has film that is bubbling or purple, removal is added to the quote and adds up to an hour to the visit.
- Windshield and roof. Both are optional. A light windshield film is popular for heat without changing the look.
- Factory privacy glass. The dark rear glass on many SUVs is dyed glass for looks and does little for heat. Many owners tint the front doors to match and add film on the rear for heat.
Shade never changes the price. California does set limits on the front side windows, so check our California window tint laws page before choosing.
How Long It Takes
All side windows and the Rear Window take about 2 hours at our North Hollywood studio. Adding the windshield usually fits in the same visit. You can wait in the lounge or drop the car off.
